Friday Favorites: Weekend Edition

I’ve been good lately but I had to share my weak moments, it’s a step by step process that I don’t see me accomplishing in the near future – but at least I can admit it.

I’ve compiled my favourites from the past few weeks…

Favourite Beauty Purchase

Becca Jaclyn Hill Champagne Pop Highlighter

IMG_4728

I was finally able to secure this lusted after highlighter. You’d think it was sealed into it’s pan with Channing Tatum’s saliva or something. I mean, I’m not going to act coy – this sh*t seriously lives up to the boy band level hype. Ahhh Jaclyn I’d die for you! OMG Touch my hand! I’m working on a full review in the meantime but I’m sure you’re picking up what I’m putting down. The soft white gold is bright enough to highlight and the pearlized pinkish undertone is flattering for pretty much every skin tone. It’s a limited edition exclusive so it tends to sell out – make sure you secure one before it’s gone again.

Favourite Wardrobe Purchase

Nasty Gal Trench

IMG_4497

Behind every selfie is 3570 others that didn’t quite make the cut right? In this case they were all pretty fyne so naturally – this was going to happen. Anyway – showcasing my new Nasty Gal lightweight trench. I was hounding around for one that wasn’t so structured or heavy and I came across this one. I’ve worn it twice in one week and I’m such a jerk I don’t recycle wardrobe items for months. It’s the perfect topper, or 3rd piece, plus it keeps you warm when your skirt is the size of a crop top.

Favourite Treat

Soft Peaks Soft Serve

IMG_4596

Weekends are my favorite. This soft serve is the creamiest, most organic, most hipster, most fat free, most sugarless soft serve you  will ever taste. But it’s delicious and doesn’t make you feel like a cow afterwards. If you ever get a chance to try it – do, all jokes aside it’s so yummy and it makes for an Instapic curated to perfection.

Check them out here.

Favourite Scent

Wildfox Fragrance

IMG_4645

My absolute favorite brand of comfy, effortless, airy clothing has come out with a fragrance in case you weren’t aware. I lost my shit when I found out it was being conjured. It’s like finding out wine is coming out with a eau de toilette. How can you not? It’s made with equal parts warm summer nights, clean sheets, girlie nights and candlelit rainy days. Honest. There’s a concoction of apricot, absinthe, jasmine, honey, musk, ambrox, incense, white camellia, and honeysuckle dew that transposes onto the skin in the most intoxicating scent. You’ll have to try it for yourself but it’s warm and musky yet fresh at the same time. Perfect for the upcoming Fall/Winter months…

Lush’s Cup O Coffee Mask

IMG_5002

I like my coffee strong, dark and dirty and I’ve found the equivalent in a face mask. If there’s anything you purchase this month make sure it’s this Lush face/body mask. It’s now a key part of my morning makeup routine because I can’t wake up without it. It’s the caffeine addiction that’s taken hold of me in the form of a beauty product. I can’t. It’s akin to slapping a cup of cold coffee onto your face – invigorating, freshening, cleansing – but instead of leaving behind a sense of shock and confusion, it leaves soft skin free of dryness and sleep deprivation. I honestly don’t want to start my day without it – colour me a victim but I feel like I can decrease my morning coffee intake from 7303 to 2 cups nowadays.

The cusp of Autumn

IMG_4629

Took this on a recent girls night at dusk and the arrangement of fallen leaves was too good an Instapic to pass up. Fall and Winter are my favorite times of year – the basics go nuts for pumpkin, the air is crisp, the decor is rustic and cozy and Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas are ready to suit up and assault your senses. Can’t wait.

Favourite Decorative Piece

Mirrored Side Table

IMG_4999

I have a penchant for acquiring a ton of furniture that I don’t really need but seem to think I can’t live without. This mirrored side table is a prime example. I thought $180 was obscene but I just couldn’t leave it behind – it adds so much to this corner of my bedroom that I felt needed something to fill it. It’s the piece de resistance for the area and I love it. I lengthened it by adding a taller vase and a pedestal for my endless Diptyque candles. The mirror behind it was purchased during the same trip and I love the contrast between the darker frame and mirrored dresser. Pleased. I got them both from Homesense – treasure trove for gems like these – it’d hard not to lose your sh*t in that place – I bring home pretty much everything but the employees.

Happy Weekend

Friday Favorites: Weekend Edition

I’m spending my Sunday editing some new purchase posts, only getting out of bed to work out, and giggling with Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. Hope your’s is just as Hashtag #lazysunday

Mirrored Tray

IMG_5264IMG_5265IMG_5261

My sister got me this tray for Christmas. I was looking for a mirrored tray for my perfumes and vanity decor and she went a step farther by having it monogrammed. Amazing. It looks super high brow and I’m not ashamed. The size is perfect for holding what I wanted to display…

Waves

IMG_4999

I haven’t used my Sultra wand since this summer and I can’t seem to comprehend why I retired it for so long. I was getting a little tired of my hairstyle – I almost always curl it at the ends for fullness – so I decided to switch it up. So pleased. Beach waves never go out of style, especially when you don’t want to look too overdone. I already have a full of face of makeup so keeping the hair a little more casual is a nice balance. The wand looks intimidating at first but it’s become second nature to me. I usually wrap my hair around a couple times and then leave the ends so that I don’t end up looking like Curly Sue (Google her).

Sephora Collection Flatter Yourself Contouring Brush Set

IMG_5129

I ordered this brush set a couple weeks ago and was going to do a full review but haven’t had enough time to really get up close and personal. It was an exclusive and I’m a sucker for an exclusive – mainly because I get anxiety over the fact that there is a product out there that if not purchased, will be out of reach forever. These are the types of regrets I simply cannot live with. Anyway, the bristles are remarkably soft and high quality and the set of 3 is complimentary and nice for creating a basic contour (as well as buffing and blending liquid makeup). Not to mention, they come with blotting papers, a sleek little pouch and a contour guide. Overall, it contains a stippling brush, a buffing brush, and and angled blush brush. I’m getting used to using the stippling brush because I’ve never used one before, but the buffing and blush brushes I can work with like a freaking pro. Love.

No you shut YOUR mouth. Yeah. I got a onesie with cat ears on the hood. What startingly amazing thing have you done recently?

Favorite Food

Teavana

IMG_5271

I, along with most of the female population, have vowed to get back into my healthy eating habits for the new year. I’m not into resolutions but I figured now was as good a time as any to detox by body after I indulged the sh*t out of Christmas. I started feeling a little Chipmunk like after hoarding every treat placed in front of me. Ya feel me? So – in addition to upping my workouts and monitoring my food intake, I’ve started hitting up loose tea. In no way am I ridiculous enough to believe that this is a food replacement (refer to: Favorite Food) but I didn’t feel like tweaking the title.  I picked up a fancy little holiday set right before Christmas and am actually shocked at how much they satisfy my sweet tooth. The set embraces the scents and tastes of the holiday season, and you can’t beat pumpkin spice and peppermint in one setting. Specifically, it contains 4 holiday teas which consist of Pumpkin Spice Brûlée, White Chocolate Peppermint, Chococaramel Sea Salt, and Spiced Apple Cider. I haven’t tried them all but so far I love the white chocolate peppermint and chococaramel sea salt. Probably because they’re the most indulgent sounding. Pathetic.

I don’t believe that this set is still available but you can get a ton of similar ones here – www.teavana.com

Voraciously Reading

IMG_5270

I’ve been trying to catch up on all the books sitting in my iBookshelf. I download them like they’re going to vanish within seconds – big up to purchase anxiety, yet again. Although I love reading on my iPad, there are some books I feel are worth buying in physical form. Coffee table books and books having to do with style and fashion are a must have tangible good. They look pretty and class up the joint, plus you can mark off and go back to them without having to scroll through hundreds of pages. I’d been wanting to read Sophia Amoroso’s #girlboss for months now. I’ve been a loyal Nasty Gal investor (read – shopper) and am always open to a little inspiration and advice, especially from such a powerhouse. I’m halfway in and am marking off pages worthy of anecdotes that need to be drilled into my head. Her uhf*ckwithable attitude is infectious, I’ll make sure to do a book report review when I’m done. I also purchased The Glitter Plan, which is Pam Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor’s rise to infamy with Juicy Couture. Since Juicy is now fading into the outlet abyss and they’ve recently launched their new, more high endline – Pam & Gela, I was interested in reading their memoir. Yes Please is another can’t miss read. I am crushing hard on Amy Poehler. She is genuinely funny and offers up some really deep musings that you have to read a couple times to ensure she isn’t just f*cking with you. Idol status. Those are the 3 books I’ve started reading so far. I’ve also just purchased Serena by Ron Rash , Dead Stars by Bruce Wagner, and Paper Towns by John Green. There isn’t enough time in the day…

Here’s a list of book adaptations hitting the big screen this year (and as everyone knows – the book is always better than the movie).  21 Books to Read Before They Hit The Big Screen in 2015

Favorite Outfit

Ripped Denim

IMG_5090

Excuse the shitty photo quality. I was just getting home from work and realized I didn’t take advantage of the cloudless day for a superior outfit pic. These black skinnies are from Zara (I believe I purchased them back in October). They’re not as skinny in the shin area, and I find that a lot of denim fails me in this area because I have smaller shins. Other than J Brand which fit like second skin, a lot of denim I’ve tried and even purchased falls short here. Anyway, the wash and the strategic shreds are great. I actually DIY expanded the knee rips (with my own two hands and all) so that they’re a little more edgy and not as clean looking. Paired them with a pair of Jeffrey Campbell lace up flats (mimicked off Aquazurra) and had a bit of Kurt Cobain meets Olivia Palermo.

Happy Weekend

Steal The Look: Boho Kimonos

Image

Ugh. Yes please. Kimonos are so in style – not just right now, but since forever. Well, since like, 1912. They’re wearable – if you pick the right essentials and they have an air about them – like carefree California girl walking barefoot through Venice sipping sparkling water. (Less Britney – more Blake Lively). They’re transitioning into Fall from the lazy days of summer where you can throw em over high waisted shorts and a tank, into the perfect topper for tights, skinnies and the SO BACK FROM the 90’s – bellbottom jeans.  I’m loving what Free People has to offer right now, and Stone Cold Fox (one of my FAV brands) also has some insanely addictive pieces.

1098539_10153151816285206_1280139647_n

As for style advice, they’re the perfect compliment to slim bottoms and a little less structured tops. Think silky camisoles, flowy tunics, cotton henleys, the ever so distastefully nicknamed – wifebeaters, and my FAV – the plain white T. The choices are endless, dresses are another complimentary piece as long as they’re kept simple. Bohemian styles, lace and chiffon numbers, as well as straight up tank dresses are great – just don’t get it twisted – the girls should be tucked away, the sequins kept at bay, and the skin tight, embellished numbers – maybe just leave those in Vegas.) For shoes, mostly anything goes, my favorite pairings being booties, fringed sandals, gladiator sandals (which are so hot right now), tall boots and simple cuffed heeled sandals.

As you can see below, paired with simple basics and denim bottoms is a popular look. A little tummy ain’t never hurt nobody either. Just remember – and repeat my mantra – keep it simple. The kimono is meant to add a little character and a little flair to an otherwise basic outfit because if the rest of your outfit is busy with mind altering designs, fabrics and layers you’re going to look more Helena Bonham Carter than Helena Christensen.
