Friday Favorites: Weekend Edition

Favorite Purchase

Along with the rest of the fashion obsessed world – I’m in love with the mini bag. The nano. The tiny tote. Whatever. I want to pinch it’s leathery cheeks and kiss it’s little handles. I recently added to this collection of little midget bags with a Balenciaga Giant 12 Red Mini City bag. Or Lil Red, as I like to call it. Hand stitched handles, a removable strap, top zip closure with gold metal hardware. This is my favorite style Balenciaga handbag – the leather is durable and insanely soft but it still retains its shape because of the firm outer frame. And it’s red. I didn’t match it to the season whatsoever.

Favorite Product

I recently went browsing for a good leave – in conditioner type styling product. Sideways rain, misty rain, fat droplets of rain…neither are welcome but they invite themselves up anyway. The girls @ Obadiah Salon in Bellevue have instilled in me, a love for Oribe’. This leave-in conditioner is luxe (for the price and the brand – I’d expect nothing less). It’s light and moisturizing yet dissolves quickly – almost like a serum. I find that creams feel a little heavier but this stuff is airy and smooth. It really tamed my dry curls and although I’m a little stingy on the application, a little is all you need to make it happen. The added heat protection, and glossy shine is awesome so I can now justify the price. I went with the smaller tube as a trial but will definitely upgrade to a larger size now that I know the benefits are legit.

Favorite Scent

Jo Malone’s Mimosa & Cardamom is a little cloud of mimosa, spicy, warm cardamom, sandalwood, and Damask rose. Really, there’s not one Jo Malone fragrance that I have turned away from, so I’m not surprised at my love affair with this new scent. It actually reminds me of talcum powder, it’s a soft scent – perfect for the winter months.

Favorite Read

The Bookseller by Cynthia Swanson – this book actually left me perplexed but it didn’t keep me from putting it down. It follows the parallel life of a young Denver woman in 1960’s who co-owns a bookshop with her girlfriend. While she’s a simple, single, independent girl in one life, she’s a glam housewife in the other – caring for her husband and triplets. It goes back and forth between each world until she comes to a realization as to which world she actually inhabits. It infiltrated my sleep so it will yours.

Anyone who has a relationship with their bed linens can appreciate this photo by Alyssa Monks. Paintings to be exact. The perfect rumple, the creases in fresh linen, silly sheets and a light, fluffy down duvet. zzzzz.

Favorite Look

My style muse Maja Wyh is yet to fail me. Even the most ridiculous looking pieces look perfectly paired on this little sprite. Full fauxs, layers, and a Kate Moss/Jagger edge.

Wear Me: Spring Must Haves

Currently – Engulfed in the fuzziest blanket cardigan that’s still not appropriate for the monsoon happening outside. But I mean. Fashion.

Dreaming – Compiling a list of my most covetable Spring items I have to have else I’ll die. Probably literally.

If you live in California or any place that’s warmer than 60 – you’re a bitch. If you don’t – starting prepping your wardrobe with these gems…

Click on the title so you can throw it in the bag.

One Teaspoon Wilde 2020 Denim Skirt

I have been eyeing this little thing for the past couple months and think it’ll be a nice alternative to my cutoffs that I tend to live in all Summer long. It’s the perfect all year round piece.

Aquazurra Sexy Little Thing booties

I love these sand coloured booties for Spring. The soft shade with the sexy cutouts are a flawless combination. Cutoffs, sundresses, shredded denim and feminine shorts will never be the same.

Wildfox Fleur Sunglasses

I know that mirrored shades are so last year and so Coachella but for me, they don’t go out of style. If I can drive around feeling like a fighter pilot a la Maverick then I’m going to take full advantage of it.

Rebecca Minkoff Mini Fringe Cross Body

Fringe is everywhere right now and this little bag is perfect for adding a little bit of trend while allowing you to keep your outfit neutral. The camel is a nice touch for Spring – keeping it light and airy. I need to add this to my M.A.C. collection.

Raga Coin Chain Necklace/Revolve Clothing

So festival season. I can see myself throwing this over a white tee any day of the week.

Aquazzura Wild Thing fringe sandals

I’ve started this tradition of gifting myself a pair of designer shoes on my birthday. This year is no exception. It’s a nice treat and although I tend to extend this tradition to pretty much every holiday possible – nothing beats spoiling yourself on your birthday. To me, from me is the best gift tag ever. I don’t need no sugar daddy.

Benefit Cosmetics Roller Lash mascara

One of the newest additions to Benefit’s highly popular mascara collection- this one’s inspired by hair rollers (hayyyy Bardot style lashes). The hook n roll brush contains little hooks to catch, lengthen, lift and curl lashes. I’m definitely going to review this sassy little diva.

Free People Cascading Petal Shorts

These shorts are a must because of the girlie factor and the relaxed fit. I’d love them with a pair of flat gladiators or a pair of minimalist heels. So easy to wear in the warmer months and they transition into the Fall with a pair of tights and oversized knit too.

BlQ Basic Tank Dress

This slip on dress is foolproof for the Spring and it’s the classic material for layering with a light jacket, a denim button down or a classic knit. I like the brightness because it’s fun and I feel like wearing black in the warmer months is for enos and Daria.

Chloe Susanna Studded booties

I know, I know. So fashion blogger. But they are for a reason. They’re the all in one bootie. Ace for Fall, Winter, Spring & Summer. The gold detailing, the ideal height and the ability to pair with almost anything is what makes it so popular. I can’t decide on these or the Aquazzura sandals. They’re both so different. Such individuals. It’ll be a shame not to have them both. A damn shame.

Jen’s Pirate Booty Nitro Tunic

We’re currently in the midst of festival season. Calling all headdresses, boho blouses, flower halos and permastoners. Just because I’m hating doesn’t mean I won’t participate. Tons of retailers are displaying designs based on Coachella, for example. Jen’s Pirate Booty is one of my favourite brands for flawy, airy, “I never have to wear a bra” style clothing. This tunic dress is nice for someone who doesn’t want to get too cliche, especially if they did’t get tickets for anywhere. I’m not bitter. I’m just saying.

Foley & Corinna Framed Petite Cross Body

I love this little mini bag for the Spring. It’s easy to style, holds your most important items, and gives a polished look to an otherwise thrown together outfit.

Rebecca Minkoff Gilles Espadrille

I die for these. Valentino is giving her the side eye for being so crafty but I can care less. These will be on my feet soon. The outfit options are endless.

New Balance for J Crew 620 Sneakers

The dressed up sneaker trend isn’t going anywhere soon whether you like it or not. J Crew can attest to that. They’ve just paired up with New Balance and released a couple exclusive sneakers on their site. The colors are so fun and surprisingly easy to style. Nice for when you want to stay on trend but give your feet a break.

BareMinerals California Bronze Multi Effect Bronzing Trio

A nice subtle glow is most likely your best accessory for just about anything in the warmer months. The harsh contouring from Fall is transitioning into a softer look for when you want to get all au natural. Or at least fake it as we all do. Don’t even. I already know. Each shade is universally flattering and helps create a little dimension while giving off an “I’m tan year round haters” look.

Nila Anthony Fur Ball Bag Accessory

I just ordered mine. How can you live life without this pouf of happiness? It can come off as tacky if you don’t style it right…enhance your neutrals and use it on already simplistic bags, wallets and clutches. So Cher.

What do you think of my Wish List? More importantly, do you have my email address for money transfers?

Wear Me: The Black Tight

This garment right here is my winter staple. If I’m wearing a skirt, shorts or a dress I’ll most likely be wearing tights. I have olive skin but in the winter I’m also known as Casper the not so friendly ghost. Tights are the best way to cover up pasty legs and to make your outfit look put together and a little more upscale. With so many styles and finishes to them it’s hard to sometimes choose which pair go best with what look you’re trying to garner but this post should help take some of the guesswork out of it.

Black matte are by far my favourite, and most versatile but knit, polka dots, sheer and other finishes are nice touches as well. The hardest part of throwing on a pair of tights for me is to not look so Forever 21 and more J Crew. The key to that is keeping the overall look chic and not cutesey. Using monochromatic pieces, neutrals, chunky knits, overcoats and trenches, and sleek shoes are your best bet. Layering dresses with kits, stacking the knee socks, pairing tights (only) with dresses and adding a ton of jewellery will take you in the direction you probably aren’t looking to head in. Think less tween party goer and more Mary Kate couldn’t find her pants that day. Just with a little more thought.

Here’s a little inspiration – plus links to my picks.

Sunday Style Inspiration

I haven’t browsed Pinterest in a while but since I’ll be shopping in my closet this month (in order to attempt to stay in line with my resolution to be more fiscally responsible – try saying that with a straight face), I needed a little inspiration.

Here’s to yours.

Wear Me: 3 Fall Outfits You Need to Put On…

I decided to skip my favorites post this week and replace it with my 3 favorite Fall outfits instead. Crisp, sunny weather is the perfect backdrop for displaying your fall wardrobe. Trust. Nothing obliterates a strategically put together outfit worse than sideways rain. Avoid that sh*t like people hawking their child’s latest school fundraiser. Sorry. Not….

Anyway, I’ve put together a compilation of my favorite go-to outfit combinations. They’re pretty versatile and range from comfy chic to can’t really breathe in my pants but they make my legs look slim, to Olsen vogue. I find that I tend to make my way through each of these looks and am pretty pleased with the wearability to compliment ratio. You should be too…

1.  Oversized Everything

The best is usually reserved for last but in this case, I just couldn’t wait. This is by far, hands down, tongue wagging, my most esteemed, most adored look. And it’s not just because it fools people into thinking you’re perf underneath the extra fabric (although that may be a welcome side effect). Everything about the look is classic. Oversized sweaters and tops are actually very clean looking, compared to the slummy sloth like persona some may reserve for them. When paired with slim bottoms, cute skirts and great shoes – the end result is practically flawless. The boyfriend look has been in style for years and is only going to continue its reign. The level of comfort is unsurpassable and the style factor is pretty high if you know how to create the look. See?

2. Comfy Chic

You probably think by now that I’m a hefty fashionista of approximately 300 lbs but you’d be mistaken. I just like to dress like one. (And ain’t nothing wrong with being 300 lbs and stylish either – take no offense). Anyway, oversized items can definitely fall into this category but I like to keep them separate because this look is more all encompassing that the above. To give you a visualization – think boyfriend cardigans with leather pants, sweatshirts with crepe pleated skirts and 4 inch stilettos with long drapey tops and sweaters. The epitome of comfy chic is the ability to stay comfortable yet exude style. See?

3. Olsen Chic

I know I know, if you think you’re sensing a pattern here – you’re right. I am ride or die for the hobo chic look. If you’ve never tried it before, or have no idea what I’m speaking of, there’s probably a cartoon thought bubble above your head filled with raggedy clothes, paper bags as hats, and a shopping cart as an accessory). You’d be mistaken. The hobo look is something that’s made easy to envision if you take the Olsen twins as muses. They’re not only known for their shenanigans on Full House but their profound presence in the emergence of the hobo chic look. A little 90’s, a lot of layering, a couple overpriced pieces made to look like items purchased out of a bin at a vintage garage sale and a ton of attitude. I will mention that their 90’s grunge look has evolved into more iconic pieces, cleaner lines and high fashion simplistic items yet they manage to still stay true to the pleasantly excessive layering and 100 shades of black. Black is after all, the new Black. The Olsens have perfected the laid back yet pretentious look to a T. You can too. See?

My favourite places to pick up pieces like these right now are Aritzia, Zara and Revolve. Fall is by far the best time of year to start trying new trends, gathering iconic & long lasting wardrobe pieces, and layering up. Do it.
