Friday Favorites: Weekend Edition

Happy Weekend

Favorite Look

Side Swept Hair

I’ve been shamelessly repeating the side swept do for the past week or so…and I’m not sorry. I love that it looks like you put a lot of time and effort into styling a ‘do but really all I do I curl the ends as usual, Farrah the bangs a little and sweep it all over one shoulder. It’s great for when you want to look done up without wasting your precious makeup minutes. A la Jessica.

Favorite Product

MAC Soar Lip Pencil

Okay okay. I caved and succumbed to the Kylie lip trend. I hate how you know who I’m talking about without even having to provide a last name. Gross. Anyway, I like the look and although it’s one of her Instapics that sent beauty bloggers and makeup hoarders into a frenzy, it’s the 90’s lip that’s iconic. Cholas everywhere are mean mugging at anyone who says they weren’t the real OG’s but I ain’t scared – I give credit where credit is due and I’m giving credit to the 90’s. I did a little bit of research – (and by research I obviously mean scrolling hashtags) and came up with a nice color combo that’s being thrown around social media…MAC Soar liner and Brave satin lipstick. I have both on here and find that although the liner took some getting used to (I’ve barely ever worn it) the end result is pretty pleasing. It’s like my lips – but better. The line isn’t too harsh plus it lasted all freaking day. Try it.

Favorite Photo

Pumpkin Patching

Fall is my 2nd favourite time of year. Do you even have to ponder my 1st? I love impromptu photoshoots, the perfectly crisp sunshine, the smell of pumpkin and leaves in the air and – Halloween.  My favourite patch is Bellewood Acres in Bellingham WA. It’s less of a little patch and more of a all encompassing farm with apples, pumpkins, whimsical decor, and amazing food. My sister and I went back a week later for the fries and gin apple cider. We don’t eat fries. We had these twice. The bomb. Oh right – the picture – self taken whilst prancing amongst the pumpkins. The outfit was obviously coordinated and acclimated to a pumpkin patch. I’m wearing Marc Jacobs booties, Paradise Mine denim and Artizia’s Montpellier sweater. Fall approved.

Favorite Scent

Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt Cologne

I was in Nordstrom picking up the latest Diptyque candle (more on that later) and happened to find myself browsing the Jo Malone counter. It’s like clockwork I tell you. This is one of the newest introductions. Wood Sage & Sea Salt. Wow. Floored. Really nice and subtle, but unique and noticeable – pretty much standard for Jo Malone. A little rugged, a little seaside and a little woodsy. Truly amazing combination – I only picked up a couple samples but this is definitely on my list of scents I can’t be without.

Favorite Purchase

Madewell Daywalk Plaid Shirtdress

I know flannels are one of the first items that get pulled out of storage when Fall hits and because I have a nice solid collection of shades and styles of button downs I really wanted to delve into different pieces this year. I eyed this on a couple occasions and finally made the purchase a couple weeks ago after trying it on. I’m one of those people that hate trying clothing on in – store. I’d much rather take it home and try it on in the comfort of my own home, own appropriately lit mirrors and lack of 10 pairs of eyes judging staring at me (Artizia I love you but you need to recognize). Anyway, loved it. I was conveniently wearing a pair of matching booties so I was able to bring my visions to life. I purchased it in red buffalo although the blue is a more unique shade…It looked a little shapeless on the hanger but I love the fit. I’m into the oversized look (all day everyday) and find that although it doesn’t hug the curves, it’s not dumpy looking. Can’t wait to wear it.

Favorite Wish List Item

Louis Vuitton Alma BB Bag

Let me say this – I have been lusting over this bag for a mere 2 weeks or so. I was originally drooling on my screen while perusing the YSL Medium Tassel satchel but have since decided that it’s not the classic bag I’m looking for right now…I then moved onto the Louis online site and lusted after the Vernis collection. I love the monogram but feel that, again – it’s not as classic and easy to wear with everything. Contrary to the all black everything uniform – I do shy away from time to time and although it’s easy to pair a trendy bag with a neutral color palette, it’s hard to pair it with more detailed and trendier wardrobe choices. Enter the Alma BB in dune. I need you in my life. You are everything. You are classic, timeless, and hold my most prized tote-able items. True lust. ** Update – I have something to show you. I repeat – I. Have. Something. To. Show. You.

Style: Looks of the Week

It’s been long overdue since I’ve posted on celeb style. Nothing really did it for me.

Until now.

Rihanna in Balmain. The embellished top and cargo pants are a complete 360 from her CDFA sheer, crystallized gown. And that’s why we applaud her style. Keeps you guessing.

Gwen Stefani in a DWP moto vest and BF denim. Ain’t nobody do BF jeans like this chick. She woke up like this.

Sandy Bullock in a cut out Vionnet cobalt blue crepe de chine column gown. Just the right amount of skin. She is so flawless.

Eva Longoria in a Sadd & Bide gown. Eva doesn’t usually fall on my “do” list because he style is too Guess/Bebe for my liking. The white and gold combo has me catching feelings though…

Emmy Rossum in Stella McCartney Resort 2015. Lips, lace, fringe and simplicistic sandals.

Taylor Schilling in white hot ALC. Casadei pumps. White is the new orange. Sorry, I couldn’t help myself. She is my girl crush right now.

Alexa Chung in Chanel. The cropped peasant blouse, tweed midi and patent ankle length boots are so unexpected. As par the course…

Jamie King in Katie Ermilo. I absolutely adore this woman. She is such a classic beauty. This ensemble is MADE for her.

Kate Bosworth in a peach and coral colored Giambattista Valli dress. Love the colors, so serene. And the patent brown pumps? Edgy.

Alexa Chung in black organza Dior. That lace bib top is to die for.

Kendall Jenner in cobalt blue Camilla & Marc. I have to say that I like this half of Kendall & Kylie much better than the other. Mainly because she hasn’t had any work done. She’s everywhere right now, but she still carries her baby face. That’s fresh.

Shailene Woodley in canary yellow Ralph Lauren Collection. No better style of gown for that haircut. So simple & elegant.

Taylor Schilling in a navy ribbed, and racy Vionnet lace paneled dress. Girl crush has made the list twice. I’m fiening. Clearly.

Angelina Jolie in a dramatic two toned Atlier Versace.  Not to be outshone, my original number one simply threw on what she was given and put her hair in a bun. Nothing else is necessary.

Emily Blunt in a sharp edged Prada column in this season’s hottest shade. I can actually envision myself in this. Love the color, the cut, everything.

Camilla Belle in a mauve bejeweled Gucci leather yoke dress. The detailing on this frock is obscene. So glam. And those shoes? Ughhhh.

Kate Bosworth in a TopShop airy, floral mini and an H&M crochet tank. Go to summer look. Take note.

Amanda Seyfried in blue gingham and dark denim. Semi prep school, semi English royalty on the down lo. Her bare minimal is others’ extreme effort.

Heidi Klum in a B&W Jenni Kayne jumpsuit. Not a huge fan of Heidi, but the hair style, the orange lip and the color blocked jumpsuit are pretty flawless.

Kate Hudson in Houghton seperates. Oh Kate, hi. You decided to rock everything on trend right now huh? Mirrored shades, crop top, the white pump, and nips. This is how you do understated chic.

Olivia Palermo in polka dot Banana Republic Marimekko Collection pants and matching sweater. The military topper with the printed pants is reall unique, but I wouldn’t expect anything common for her either way…

Wear Me: Mirror Mirror

Although I chant it often enough, I’m talking sunglasses – not vanity.

Trending right now – mirrored shades.

They’re so Bardot, so everywhere, and really – pretty flattering on just about any face.

Oh, and what’s the best way to showcase a current trend?

Throw in some pictures of celebs modeling them.

Jamie Chung in Guess.

Dianna Agron in Ray Ban.

Olivia Palermo in Westward Leaning.

Julianne Hough.

Emma Roberts in rose colored Ray Bans.

Kelly Ripa.

Jessica Alba in Westward Leaning sunnies.

Alessandra Ambrosio.

Heidi Klum in a chic black reflective pair.

Rebecca Romijin.

Whether they’re blue, purple, pink, green, brown, or black, reflective mirrored shades are fairly easy to pair with just about any outfit. If you’re scared of color (what a sh*tty little thing to be afraid of first of all – #firstworldproblems much), then try pairing a more neutral shade with a more monochromatic outfit like Heidi, Emma and Olivia. If you’re into embracing any and all trends, good for you, although you’re probably trying a little too hard and should refrain from being such a victim – opt for ones similar to Jamie’s, Jessica’s or Diannas.

I’ve compiled a list of some sweet styles I’m really liking right now…

You’re welcome.

Ray Ban Original Aviator 58 mm Polarized $215/

Matthew Williamson Mirrored Oversized $300/

Elizabeth and James Talbert 52mm Polarized $127.30 (on sale)/

Italia Independent Sport Aviators $171/

Cherish Sunglasses in Quay $50/

Wildfox Amelia Delux $195/

Shakuhachi x Revolve Moon Shine Sunglasses $227/

Barton Perreira Ronette Soft Cat Eye $600/

Stella McCartney Mirrored Square Acetate in Bordeaux Tortoise Red $250/

I myself have just placed an order for the Wildfox Amelia, as they’ve been sold out online for longer than I can wait without feeling extreme anxiety. Pre-order. I account at least 2 bathroom trips a day to the fear that my special order will be lost. Or that they’ll forget about my special request and give my precious sunglasses to some b*tch in California that already has like 18 pairs. Or they’ll run out of mirrored lens. Like, at that exact moment when they become available for shipment, the stock of mirrored lens around the world will cease to exist. This is the kind of shit that keeps me up at night.

Anyway, get some. Even if it rains and is never sunny where you are. You might look like a pretentious buffoon but at least you’ll know whats up style wise.

Don’t worry, they’re looking at you out of longing. Not perplexity.

Style: Looks of the Week

I haven’t had time to gather my favorite celeb looks so these are from the previous week…don’t judge, they’re still targets for review.

Kiernan Shipka in a high shine Nina Ricci floral jacquard dress. Stuart Weitzman on her feet.

Jamie Chung in a white hot bustier and stripes. The oversized blazer is so unexpected yet everything.

Coco Rocha in peplum and pencil.

Kate Upton in a William Vintage demure old Hollywood style dress.

Shailene Woodley in Zuhair Murad.

Cameron Diaz in a Dior LND and Brian Atwood pumps.

Jennifer Connelly in Vuitton. The mirrored sequins, black leather and metallic accents are to die for.

Jennifer Connelly (holy sh*t yes – again) in an extremely intricate, extremely jaw dropping Alexander McQueen. Floral and organza. Wow.

Emma Watson in a silk Ralph Lauren column gown. A la’ 90’s Anniston.

Rosie HW in a dove grey Marios Schwa mini with cashmere bodice. She’s an angel.

Margot Robbie in a red hot Paper London jumpsuit.

Emmy Rossum in pastel pink Tanya Taylor and a mid length full skirt. Add ballet flats and you get a perfectly done Audrey.

Kate Bosworth does hippie chic so right. Blue and white Peter Som for Kohl’s. I need this. Oh and the Zadig & Voltaire boots are the perfect pairing.

Emma Watson. What? Twice? Uh yeah. This look is amazing. The sheer floral Erdem frock is EVERYTHING. Hold that thought – sheer floral anywhere is a vision. Navy Roger Viver pumps complete the look.

So many deserving repeat offenders. Cameron – ps – one of my favorite girls on the face of this Earth in a super flirty tennis inspired Victoria Beckham mini. That tan, and those pumps. No explanation needed.

Really I wasn’t kidding – Emma Stone I have never seen you in anything so delicious. This magenta guipure knit midi Dior is one of the richest, lightest, most flattering colors I’ve ever come across. And the matching D’orsay Louboutins? I can’t.

To finish it off – the Queen of all style mavens – Olivia Palermo in a Rachel Zoe power suit and a multicolored fur. Yes fur. I know. Terrible. It is. I have a love hate with her  for her fur tendencies but I’ll settle for it.

Style: Looks of the Week

I haven’t been updating this section lately. I don’t really have an explanation other than the fact that I was sick and lazy. Slazy.

Here are my fav looks as of late…

Scarlett Johansson in Armani. This helps me get over her wretched performance in Don Jon.

Emma Watson in Wes Gordon. Who is huge right now btw. Like insanely eclipse – huge. I really think the slicked back do and red lip does it for me.

Jamie Chung (naturally) in a BCBG jacket and Alejandro Ingelmo T strap pumps. This girl never gets it wrong. I love everything about her. That studded floral jacket is to die for.

Jenna Dewan-Tatum in Parker. Shades of camo and mesh insets. Perfect.

Jennifer Connelly in Givenchy Couture. I’m not a fan of the prom queen style and she isn’t either. This structured gown is amazing on her. The pink makes it really young too.

Jessica Alba in Cushnie et Ochs. Jessica why must you do me this way? Her cheekbones match her dress. Godddddddddd.

Zoey Deutch in Houghton seperates. This is what a modern day Vamp looks like. Impeccable.

SJP in Dolce & Gabbana. One of my fashion muses. Say what you want about her but she is ageless to me. It’s all in the outfit.

Amber Heard in a beaded and belted Ulyana Sergeenko fringed dress. Look at this little Spanish princess. The lip, the updo, the fringe and the Louboutins. I can’t get over it.

Jennifer Hudson in basics. See what I mean? Basics do a body so good. I love the little kick on her polka dot pencil skirt.

Elle Fanning. Neon is everything right now. Coordinates over basics like this is insanely chic. So Parisian.

Elizabeth Olsen in Miu Miu. Putting the other Olsens to shame in this get up. I would give anything to wear this. Okay, not anything, but you get the point. Love the shade and love the relaxed feel to the whole look.

Olivia Palermo in Valentino and Rebecca Minkoff.  Prints, brights and blacks. Queen Mix A Lot is what I shall call her. She makes it all look so natural.

Kate Mara in Louis Vuitton. Very 80s. Very chic. And actually very put together. I’m not loving the printed pumps somehow the muted tone of her outfit makes them work.

Kate Moss. In J Brand. Leather. And a white top. Staples. She does staples, denim and leather like NO ONE before and after her.

Keira Knightley in Chanel Couture. Omg to this corseted waist Chanel has been displaying.

Jennifer Lawrence in Tom Ford. J Law can trip and fall on her face all over this mirrored Tom Ford mini. Class.

Diane Kruger in Valentino Couture. Jaw dropping. The hair, the lace and the sky high Loubs. I’ve never seen lace done so well. This is absolutely amazing.
